Ceramic Udu Drum
Workshop

1000007848_edited.jpg

Explore the concepts and techniques underlying the forming of Nigerian-inspired clay Udu drums by traditional hand building methods. Each participant will have the opportunity to complete one or more UDU drums during the workshop.  The final day culminates in an outdoor obvara firing and musical drum jam session in the evening.

First two sessions will be completed at the Buchanan Art Gallery classroom. Final Session will be held at 3301 Deerfoot Trl Kingsland TX instead of at the gallery. Long pants and close-toed shoes required for firing night.

No prior clay experience necessary. Please bring your own blow dryer and a large, heavy wooden spoon (purchase new if necessary: do not recommend borrowing grandma’s favorite bread spoon, as you won’t be returning it to her kitchen).
