Betty Bielser

After 45+ years of painting in watercolor, I am still learning. There are endless techniques to try and ways of painting the same thing. That is the nature of this elusive medium and the reason why I love it so much.
I started taking evening classes in watercolor from Finis Collins, a well known member of the Watercolor Gang in San Antonio. I joined the San Antonio Watercolor Group to have access to well known guest artists and took their workshops during my vacations. That Group was combined with the Texas Watercolor Society with even more opportunities.
I joined The Coppini Art Academy and the Starving Artists River Walk to sell my paintings. I sold my first painting to an attorney. It was of a hobo sleeping in a cemetery and I have been blessed with sales that have found their way internationally.
Shortly after the turn of the 21st century, I started teaching beginners watercolor. From those classes, I wrote a workbook to go with my lessons that covered everything anyone would need to know to start painting in watercolor.
During that time, I took portrait workshops from Joseph Fettings and fell in love with watercolor portraits. From that, I developed my own techniques and started teaching. Another workbook materialized and now I use it in all my portrait workshops.
My paintings are on display in Highland Arts Gallery, Buchanan Art Gallery, businesses around the area, and I welcome commissions. I have ongoing watercolor classes at Buchanan Art Gallery and other places on request. And, I am a member of the Texas Watercolor Society.
